Quote Of The Day

It is the one season of the year when we can lay aside all gnawing worry, indulge in sentiment without censure, assume the carefree faith of childhood, and just plain "have fun." Whether they call it Yuletide, Noel, Weinachten, or Christmas, people around the earth thirst for its refreshment as the desert traveller for the oasis.

Irish Blessing

"May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day.
May songbirds serenade you every step along the way.
May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that's always blue.
And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through."

Journey At The Sea

I still remember the thrill when I found my first smooth piece of sea glass on the beach at the Adriatic Coast.
Natural sea glass also known as seaglass, beach glass, beachglass, "Mermaid Tears"… is a product of debris tumbled by water, waves, current, rocks and sand.
What once was garbage is a beautiful jewel today. It takes many, many years to see the piece perfectly frosted. Each piece is a treasure that carries implausible history and I love to guess the stories behind each specific sea glass gem. As I hold the sea glass pieces-hand picked by my family at the Adriatic Coast this past summer I wonder what was their journey at the sea...

"I wiped away the weeds and foam, I fetched my sea-borne treasures home."

Quote Of The Day

"Practice means to perform, over and over again in the face of all obstacles, some act of vision, of faith, of desire. Practice is a means of inviting the perfection desired."

Honey Nut Cheerios-Not!

Wrong spoon holding entirely made by hand rare ancient Viking hard stone bead dating C.866-1067 AD.

Quote Of The Day

"This is the beginning of a new day. You have been given this day to use as you will. You can waste it or use it for good. What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something that you have left behind...let it be something good."

Quote Of The Day

"Look at a stone cutter hammering away at his rock, perhaps a hundred times without as much as a crack showing in it. Yet at the hundred and first blow it will split in two, and I know it was not the last blow that did it, but all that had gone before."

War Cake

A Witness in the Siege of Sarajevo
by Linda Flynn Beekman

"Seven grenades fall around me. One explodes about a meter from me. I am lucky because a large machine used to grind stone shields me from the explosion. A piece of shrapnel hits my leg, but only burns a small piece of skin. I pull the metal out. Then I realize all the people we passed coming into the courtyard are dead. One is without the head. Another has it’s insides on the outside. Some are without arms or legs. Brains and blood are all around. I stand in the middle of the courtyard, my face black from gunpowder, looking for a place to hide. I keep muttering, “I don’t want to die. Please, I don’t want to die.”

Chapter Four Excerpt from the book “War Cake” by Linda Beekman that pertains to my life.

What Art Movement Are You?

Renee:

You Are Romanticism

You are likely to see the world as it should be, not as it is.
You prefer to celebrate the great things people do... not the horrors they're capable of.
For you, there is nothing more inspiring than a great hero.
You believe that great art reflects the artist's imagination and true ideals.

My Mom:

You Are Impressionism

You think the world is quite beautiful, especially if you look at it in new and interesting ways.
You tend to focus on color and movement in art.
For you, seeing the big picture is much more important than recording every little detail.
You can find inspiration anywhere... especially from nature.
